There are several issues to consider when selecting your wedding favors, including the guest count, cost, and even appearance. With proper thought and ingenuity, you can find reasonably priced favors that reflect the theme of your wedding and your personality as well.
Favors can be either individually placed at each place setting at the reception or put on a tray for the guests to pick up as they walk by. Another choice might be to have the flower girl or junior bridesmaids pass them out at the back of the church. This is a good choice if you select favors that are to be used to see the couple off as the leave the church, such as small, decorative bottles of bubbles or the traditional rice packets.
If you choose edible favors such as fancy Jordan almonds or Swiss chocolates, consider wrapping the individual containers in tulle or ribbons that are color-coordinated to match your wedding. Some confectioneries will even accent chocolates in white chocolate tinted to match a color swatch that you provide.
Keep price in mind, balancing the cost against the importance of the favors. The guests will be pleased with any favor on your special day, and will not care if the price was inexpensive. If you want to keep costs under control, find someone craftsy in your circle of friends or relatives who would be willing to make the favors. Small votive candles in frosted glass holders can be inexpensively wrapped in chiffon and ribbon then decorated with a tiny silk flower. These would look lovely on the table, and you can be sure the guests will remember you fondly when using them.
If you wish to go a bit more elaborate on your favors, local wineries in your area will often offer custom-labeled bottles with your names and the date of your wedding. Some can even include a photo of the bride and groom. Guests can toast the bride and groom with the wine, then keep the decorative bottle as a keepsake.
Favors that reflect your personality are also appreciated. If you love the great outdoors, miniature potted plants or flowering bulbs are a unique touch. Perhaps you love things with a more traditional touch. In this case, tiny silver picture frames at each place setting to hold the place card are elegant and useful.
Shop around when you make your choice, and always ask how much of a price break you can get when purchasing in quantity. While one place may have a flat price per piece, another shop may give you a discount per piece for every fifty or one hundred items ordered. If you are having a large wedding, this can make a real difference.
