On a wedding day, it is important that the bride and groom be the focus. The bride should be radiant in her flowing wedding gown and the groom handsome in his tuxedo. To create the perfect look for your wedding, it is also important that while jewelry is fine to wear, it needs to be the right jewelry, worn the right way. After all, you do not want any jewelry, whether on you or one of the members of the bridal party to stand out like a sore thumb. Wedding jewelry should enhance and not overwhelm.

For example, if you are having a traditional wedding, a single strand of pearls with small pearl earrings is perfect. However, wearing multiple strands of pearls, big, dangling earrings, and pearl bracelet is bit too much. If your wedding will be more on the contemporary side, rather than many baubles, have the bridal party wear just one piece of hair jewelry and perhaps a bracelet.

Wedding jewelry is an excellent way to add a little shine and pizzazz to a wedding but too much can create a disaster. You also want to match the type of gown and style of wedding with the type of jewelry, not just quantity. As mentioned, pearls are perfect for traditional weddings, strapless gowns, and very formal weddings. Diamonds are ideal for a ballerina-wedding gown with a teardrop piece and simple diamond studs. For cap sleeve gowns, double or triple strand bracelets would make a nice touch. If your wedding will be more natural with up-do hairstyles, rhinestone or sequined hair barrettes are an excellent choice.

Just as there are certain types of wedding jewelry you want to consider, there is also jewelry you do not want in your wedding. For example, unless you are having a 1920s wedding, you should avoid long hanging necklaces that do nothing for the dress. Bulky dangling earrings are also a bad idea for a wedding just as huge bracelets or hair barrettes. You want wedding jewelry to be more on the dainty size. If you prefer something different and charming, a necklace with a small gold chain and cross would be beautiful. Remember that the focus of the wedding is the gowns being worn, not the jewelry.

If the wedding dress and/or bridesmaids gowns have sequined bodices or tops with a lot of lace, you want to avoid a necklace altogether. Additionally, keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with wearing faux pearls, diamonds, or other gems as long as they are good quality and do not look as though they are fake gems. You can shop at department stores and find beautiful jewelry for $20 to $30 that would be perfect for your wedding. No one will know the difference except for you.

As the bride, when trying to determine what gift to buy your bridal party, you might consider wedding jewelry as the choice. You can buy something that each member of the bridal party could wear in the wedding but that would have special importance specifically for them. Remember that just a little jewelry will be the perfect enhancement for your wedding, allowing the wedding and bridal gowns to remain the focus.
