Although the bride and groom steal the show at the wedding, the bridesmaids are also noticed, simply because they wear long, flowing gowns or elegant, colorful dresses that grab attention. Finding a bridesmaids dress can be almost as tough as choosing the wedding gown. However, to save you some effort and time, we have provided some helpful tips:

Consider the bridesmaids style. Many times, the bride will have her mind made up that she wants a certain style without conferring with all the women. However, chances are that the bridesmaids will be different heights and sizes so listening to their likes and dislikes are important and shows respect. For example, you might have a heavyset bridesmaid and if the bride wants strapless, empire waist gowns this design would make the bridesmaid feel uncomfortable.

Instead of buying a one-piece gown, why not consider something two-piece. This particular style is very popular and opens up more options of mixing and matching colors, fabrics, and textures. For instance, if you were having a pastel-colored wedding, you could choose a purple skirt and soft lavender top for interest and contrast.

Consider choosing gowns that have rich tones. Many times, a bride will choose softer colors but instead, go with a deep teal, fuchsia, burnt orange, or a bold purple.

You want to avoid fabrics considered fussy. This would include taffeta that has any silly numbers or caricatures or other loud, busy, or obnoxious fabric. You can have color and excitement with the bridesmaids dresses but make sure they look and feel sleek and slim. To accomplish this, any fabric such as crepe, matte jersey, or chiffon are great choices.

Another example relates to color. Although you as the bride should choose the color of your dreams, just keep in mind that not everyone looks good in every color. For instance, if you have a bright, red-haired bridesmaid and you are trying to put her in red or purple, she might feel very uncomfortable. Although the traditional seafoam green and dusty blue are fine, try something different and more personalized.

Remember that while this is YOUR big day, to make it successful and a memorable occasion, everyone standing up with you as a witness needs to look incredible without outshining you. With a little creativity and listening to what the ladies feel comfortable with, you will have no problem in planning the perfect wedding day.
