A wedding shower is a time for family and friend to come together before
the wedding to have some fun and give gifts to the bride and groom. Many
years ago, only the bride attended the wedding shower, however, nowadays,
the wedding shower is attended by both parties. In addition to food, drink,
and gifts, the wedding shower is a great opportunity to play fun games.
While there are hundreds of options, following are some of the more popular
games people play:
- Wedding Dress - For this game, purchase a 24-pack of white toilet paper
prior to the party. At the party, divide the guests into two or more groups,
consisting of four or five people, with the bride and groom being in different
groups. Each group will choose a model for this game and be sure the bride
and groom are two of the models used. Using the toilet paper, each group will
design a wedding dress out of the toilet paper, creating it on the model. You
will get extra points for designing shoes, a veil, flowers, or any other
accessory that would go with the dress. At the end of the game, the two
mothers will choose the winner. This game provides an excellent pre-wedding
photo that will be a wonderful keepsake.
- Know the Bride and Groom - For this game, both the bride and groom will
complete a list of things about themselves. The list should include from 20
to 30 items and would include such things such as favorite food, color,
flower, super hero, animal, etc. Each guest will be provided with a pad of
paper and pencil with the same questions as asked to the bride and groom. The
men will complete the list for the groom and the women for the bride. The fun
is first, finding out more information about the bride and groom, and secondly,
seeing who knows them best.
- Purse Power - If the wedding shower will only be attended by the bride, this
would be a fun game to play. Have all the guests place their purse in front of
them. Before the party, make a list of common and uncommon objects that could be
found in a woman's purse such as lipstick, mirror, or wallet for the common items
and lotion, metal fingernail file, and dental floss would be uncommon items. Each
item will be assigned a valued point that will be on the list. Each person counts
the points in their respective purse based on the list provided.
- Observation - Everyone will sit in a designated area where they will be
handed a piece of paper and pen. Ask the bride to leave the room while each
guest describes on the paper everything they can remember about what the bride
is wearing, down to the smallest detail. For this game, you will not tell
anyone what the game is about until the bride is out of the room.
Additionally, you want to wait to start this game until everyone has been at
the party for about 30 minutes.
You want the wedding shower to be something that will be remembered for a
very long time. Have fun with this and enjoy!
