If you plan to have a semi-formal or formal wedding, then a wedding gown with a train would be needed. Trains add a touch of elegance and drama as you sway down the aisle heading to the front of the church to change your life forever. Having a train on your wedding gown will make you feel like a princess on this very special day.
Wedding trains come in a number of sizes, shapes, and materials. Some trains are designed to look at though they are not even there. With very soft and sheer fabric, a wonderful illusion is created while other trains are very elaborate and ornate, requiring up to four people to help carry it as the bride makes her entrance. The following are some tips to help you as you choose the train for your own wedding:
If you were having an outdoor or informal wedding, a sweet train is the best choice. This train has only six inches of material flowing on the floor so it adds a touch of elegance without going over the top.
If the wedding will be semi-formal, a chapel train is the most commonly used. This train flows one to one and a half feet behind you, bringing a more powerful look without overtaking the bride and groom.
For a formal wedding, you can go way out by choosing a cathedral train, measuring from 22 inches or more. Typically, the cathedral train is worn for very formal and large weddings that are held in churches.
Regardless of the style of train you choose, you want one that is detachable. You can wear the train during the wedding ceremony and for pictures and then at the reception, detach it so you can dance without tripping. Some are attached with hooks and eyes, Velcro, or snaps, making the detaching process easy.
Trains can also be bustled, meaning they are attached at the bodice with hooks and eyes or buttons. Then, using ribbons designed into the dress on the underside, the train can be pulled up.
Although you are not required to have a train on your wedding gown, they do add a touch of class. Since this is the biggest day of your life, why not go all out and choose a train to bring even more life to your beautiful gown.
