Weddings and Money

A wedding veil offers an enhanced look to any wedding gown. A veil can be designed using any number of material types and detailing. Depending on the style you choose, a wedding veil can range dramatically in price range. If you are somewhat creative and interested in saving a little money, consider making your own wedding veil. You will be surprised at how much fun you will have and how easy it really is.
The easiest method is to buy veiling that is already cut and gathered. In this instance, you would simply attach the veiling to a headpiece. You can find a variety of detailing at most fabric and craft stores to add your special touch. If you can sew, you could make the actual veiling as well. However, with the ease of just buying the veiling, this would be the better option and very economical.
If you are not sure what to choose for your headpiece, talk to your florist. A nice grouping of fresh cut or silk flowers on a comb or a beautiful floral wreath made from flowers that will coordinate with your wedding, can be attached very easily to the veil. Be sure to discuss pricing well in advance with the florist since you will find some that some are very reasonably priced while others can be quite expensive. Additionally, the type of flowers chosen can change the price dramatically.
You might also check with your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, or sister to see if they have a veil that you might use. Depending on the style, you could leave it as is or make minor changes to fit your style better. This is also an excellent option for adding some sentiment to your wedding veil. You will find a variety of shades, ranging from bright white to a soft ivory. Not only should the color match the dress, but the situation regarding age and first versus second marriage. You also want the style to be age appropriate. While a wedding veil that is elaborate may be fine for a younger bride, a more mature bride should have an elegant veil.
To give you an idea of where to start, consider the most popular wedding veil choices:
- Blusher - This traditional, shoulder length veil is worn over the bride's face to keep it hidden until she comes face-to-face with the groom. After the "I Do's", the veil is pulled back, allowing the couple to exchange a kiss.
- Elbow Length - Usually worn with a gown designed without a train, this style of wedding veil is less formal.
- Fingertip Length - This style of wedding veil is great for both semi-formal and formal weddings.
- Chapel - The Chapel is used in a formal wedding and is designed where the veil falls to or near the floor.
- Cathedral - This style is for a formal wedding where the veil extends onto the floor. Traditionally, the Cathedral is worn with a trained wedding dress.
