When looking for the perfect honeymoon destination, a trip to the Fiji
Islands is more wonderful than you can imagine. You will notice
immediately that the people are overly friendly. From the minute you
disembark from the plane, through Customs and Immigration, and into the
airport, you will be greeted by a crowd of smiling faces, yelling "Bula!"
In Fijian, Bula means "health." Of all the greetings a person could
receive, this is the most heartfelt and sincere.
The country is lively and quite diverse. A taxi driver will take you to
your hotel and during the trip; you will get a better glimpse of why
people say great things about Fiji. The people living in Fiji are not
really Fijians of Melanesian heritage. They are Indians that had
ancestors who migrated from Madras and Calcutta. Close to 45% of Fiji's
population, "Indo-Fijians" as they are fondly called, play an important
role in the country's growth and success. Fiji is the most prosperous of
all independent South Pacific island nations. However, with their presence
being so heavy, racial animosity and political upset has also occurred.
You will find that most of the political tensions exist in the smaller towns.
When you get out to the countryside, particularly on the incredible offshore
islets, you will find breathtaking white, sandy beaches with borders of coconut
trees, azure lagoons, and if you like scuba diving and snorkeling, colorful
reefs that offer an exceptional experience. Additionally, the mountains are
greens, from the top all the way down to the sea. Fiji has a tropical climate,
offering the perfect getaway for honeymooners.
One of the great attractions of Fiji, in addition to a beautiful paradise,
is an affordable place. Accommodations on the island range from basic
hostels, which cater more to the younger generation or those on a budget,
to luxurious resorts tucked away among tropical gardens, only feet from the
beach. If you are looking for a quiet place, where the two of you can slip
away to have more privacy, the Island of Fiji has one of the largest
selections of quality offshore resorts in all of the South Pacific, all
remote and tranquil.
To travel to Fiji, you are required to have a passport good for three months
past your visit. Be sure you pay attention to Customs or they will confiscate
things you were hoping to take home. You can take some of the Island's
delicious fruit but you will need to declare it first. The currency in
Fiji is the Fiji dollar, which is divided into 100 cents and can be traded
on the foreign exchange markets independently. The great thing about
choosing Fiji as your honeymoon destination, the weather is warm, humid, and
a definite tropical climate. You can expect high temperatures to average 83
degrees from June to September and 88 degrees from December to March. During
the evening, the two of you can take a romantic walk, hand-in-hand, down the
pristine beaches with perfect temperature of 70 degrees.
