The honeymoon is a great time to relax after all the energy expended in
planning the wedding. This is your time with your new spouse to enjoy
each other's company and share some romance. However, before you go
jetting off to your honeymoon destination, whether in the US or
internationally, you should be prepared with some travel tips for a cost
effective and safe trip.
Since 09/11, flying has changed dramatically. Depending on your destination,
you need to check with your travel agent to determine any travel concerns or
restrictions. In addition, if you are flying out of the country, you will
probably be required to arrive at the airport several hours ahead of schedule,
be prepared with appropriate documentation, and expect to go through Customs.
When choosing the airlines, check their schedule and safety records.
Especially if flying far, you want non-stop flights or at least as few
stopovers, as possible. For example, several airlines have special flights
to international destinations such as Air Jamaica that offers on-stop flights.
Also, consider the time it will take you to get to the airport at each of your
stops. If the hotel where you will be staying is located a good distance from
the airport, you want to make sure you know the distance so you do not miss
your return flight.
You will want to have enough time to do some comparison-shopping in regards
to cost. As an example, a non-stop, direct flight will probably be more
expensive than that of a flight with stopovers. If you are not in a hurry,
you might consider connections, which will save you money. Another
consideration is to look into specialty airlines. You will discover flights
operated through airlines that are designed specifically for vacations,
honeymoons, etc. An example would be Vacation Express where the roundtrip
airfare would be less expensive. Vacation or honeymoon packages should also
be seriously considered. Generally, these packages will include the air,
hotel, car, and in some cases, food and entertainment.
Be sure that you have two forms of identification, one original, and copies,
keeping the copies in your luggage should they get lost or stolen. Check
with your travel agent to learn about any travel precautions for your
destination as well as vaccines. Finally, be prepared for mishaps. It would
be wonderful if your trip goes off without a hitch and perhaps it will.
However, delays are common with travel so keep in mind that this is your
honeymoon and therefore, do not allow anything to ruin it.
