Just as you planned for your wedding, you will need to plan for the honeymoon.
There is airfare to consider, destinations to choose, documents to get in order,
rental cars to rent, and so on. The good news is that you will be able to relax
and enjoy the company of your new spouse while being pampered.
For the airlines, if possible book non-stop. Not only will this get you to your
destination quicker, but it will also save you time in changing airplanes and
waiting in airports. However, you should also consider that some non-stops
flights are more expensive than flights with connections. For this reason, you
will need to check all your options before buying your tickets.
The same goes for rental cars. While prices are comparable, there can be
significant savings through limited offer specials, different rental car
companies, and even package deals. Make sure you rent a car that offers
unlimited mileage and never buy pre-purchased gas. You can fill the tank
just before returning it to the rental car company for the going rate of
fuel whereas if you have it filled at the rental car company, depending on
the part of the country where the car is rented, you could be paying as
high as $8.00 per gallon.
Even if there are just the two of you, unless you are getting a hotel suite,
go ahead and get a double-occupancy room, preferably with king beds. If not,
even queen will be a good option that will provide you with more room to
layout your belongings. Also check for late arrival fees and guarantees for
late arrival. For example, if your hotel does not guarantee late arrival and
your flight should be delayed, you could arrive only to find you no longer
have a hotel room.
When making a decision as far as your hotel, check the inclusive options,
which means your room and three meals a day are included. In most cases,
this is a good savings but make sure you have the choice of several
different restaurants in this package. You will find AP, which is American
Plan that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. MAP is the Modified
American Plan, which includes two meals, generally breakfast and dinner.
ED is the European Plan where no meals are included, BP is Bermuda Plan
where you will receive a full breakfast, and Continental Breakfast, which
includes a light breakfast, usually consisting of rolls, bagels, dry cereal,
fruit, coffee, tea, or milk.
As your agent if they have any vouchers that could be used for meals, tours,
rooms, etc. You need to consider any duty-free shopping. These are items
are sold with no tax for the country where they were purchased. However, if
you exceed the limit in the US, you will have to pay US taxes once you get
back into the states.
