An important decision facing a prospective bride or groom is where to go on the honeymoon.
Everyone has heard their friends talk about how fun it was to go so and so on their honeymoon.
We have also heard a ton of honeymoon horror stories too. Since the honeymoon is typically a
time to get away after a busy wedding and time with family and friends, it makes sense to pick
an excellent honeymoon location. Moreover, the choice of honeymoon locations will also serve
as the foundation for many memories in the years to come as it is one of the first joint
activities that you will do as a married couple. This article will explore the factors to look
at in selecting a honeymoon location. In future articles, we will describe a couple of potential
honeymoon destinations and facotrs in selecting acomodations.
The first thing to think about in selecting a honeymoon location is to think about what the other
person will enjoy. If your bride does not like heat, and overheats in the sun easily, you may not
want to select a Carribean island destination. Moreover, if the other person does not like to
travel from place to place but likes to relax in one location, you would not want to plan a whirl
wind 7 day tour of major Europen cities. The key here is to be sensible and try to imagine what
your future spouse will enjoy doing. You can glean these facts from conversations, prior experience,
and what you know or your spouse's likes and dislikes.
Another thing that we often try to advise, is if possible, go somewhere unusual or somewhere where
you do not typically go or probably will not visit often in the future. This means that if you live
in a east coast city, you will probably not want to honeymoon in a east coast city. The honeymoon
is an event that will be talked about years in the future, so that you should try to go to someplace
memorable or unique. The only exception to this rule lies in the paragraph above - if your future
spouse will enjoy the trip more when it is local.
As with any wedding, there are often budgetary constraints for the honeymoon. A definate items to
remember is to know the cost of living in the location that you are going and be sure to factor in
all costs (airfare, accomodations, food, entertainment, miscellaneous). When you are looking at a
location, try to estimate how much it will cost and compare that to how much you have to decide if
it is possible to go to this location. There are someplaces that are more affordable than others
and cost can often be a deciding factor. You may want to take a hard look at places where the cost
of living is lower.
Finally, go somewhere where you both can relax and have fun. This can be one of the most important
keys to having an enjoyable honeymoon. Getting away and being together are the most importants parts
of the honeymoon - the location should compliment that and facilitate your being together.
