Once you get past the cost of the brides wedding gown and the catering, the next expense in line is the wedding flowers. Beautiful, colorful, and fragrant flowers can make any wedding a fairytale romance while poorly arranged flowers can turn even the most amazing wedding into something less than desirable. Flowers are a huge part of any wedding and for this reason, it is important that you choose the types of flowers that will bring life to your wedding.

You want your wedding day to be one that everyone will remember. As you create your wedding budget, expect to use about 15% of your overall budget for the flowers. You also want to keep in mind that most florists will require a deposit. While the average is typically, 25% to 50%, depending on the size of your order, more or less may be required.

As you start your search for the wedding flowers, take time to meet with several florists to determine all costs. Sometimes, hidden charges do not show up until after the wedding. These might include import charges, administrative charges, or delivery charges. Therefore, be sure to ask about all charges and make sure you have a written statement agreed on. You might also ask a close friend or family member who recently was married what florist they used. Sometimes, referrals are given a discount. You should also look in your local area to see if there are any new florists. If so, they may be willing to work with you on a reduced basis to help them become established.

Remember that the standard wedding has numerous different arrangements. For instance, there are flowers for the bridal party, ceremony, family, minister, vocalist/musician, guestbook assistant, reception, rehearsal dinner, and possible cake decorations. Ask your florist for suggestions. Some expensive flowers can be changed out for similar flowers that are less expensive. For instance, instead of having Lily of the Valley and Orchids in your wedding, which can be costly, use Dahlias, Hibiscus, or Zinnias. A good florist can take inexpensive flowers and create amazing arrangements, so do not overlook the less expensive flowers.

Ask your florist if they would be willing to work with flowers that you purchase yourself from the local market. Often, you can get beautiful flowers at a huge discount the day before the wedding from a market. This will require some solid coordination between you and the florist but it is an option. Another option is to make your own arrangements. This might even be a fun activity for the bridal party several months out where as a group, you take lessons for flower making and then create your own designs. Finally, use your ceremony flowers for your reception. When the wedding is over, instead of leaving the flowers sitting in an empty church for no one to enjoy, simply have them transferred to the reception, saving you the extra charge for additional reception flowers.
