Just about every bride has one fear for her wedding day - the pictures will not come out right. Wedding pictures are one of the most important aspects of any wedding. These pictures are what will be looked at repeatedly, shared with family and friends, and displayed throughout the home. Wedding pictures can only be taken once so you want to ensure they are done perfectly.

While each photographer has his or her own style, this is your wedding so you want to interview several photographers to ensure they understand exactly what you are looking for and that they are open to incorporating your recommendations with their professional style. When discussing the wedding pictures with the photographer, you want to make sure all details are included in the contract, signed by both parties. Following are a few recommendations as to what you would discuss with the photographer:
  • Taking shots of both bride and groom mingling with guests

  • Determining the type of camera setup used - you want a digital type setup that will allow poor pictures to be removed immediately and redone immediately

  • Taking fun shots or pictures that will provide fun visuals - these pictures would be of family, friends, and guests in a more relaxed setting where extra copies can be made to pass out

  • Quiet / romantic moments are something that every couple likes to look back on. These pictures would show the true essence of the day and include shots where the bride or groom sneak a quick kiss, or look lovingly into each other's eyes while they think no one is looking.

  • Romantic close up pictures would include the wedding decorations, flowers, reception, the cake, etc.
Some photographers will work with an assistant so you get two for the price of one. In this situation, the head photographer handles the main pictures while the assistant will help with the lighting and will move amongst the guests to get those hard to capture pictures. Be sure to ask about video packages as well. Many photographers take both the pictures and handle the videography although not all do. If you have to go with two different companies, one for the pictures and the other for the video, it can be quite expensive. Another great idea is to ask about special filters. Many pictures can be enhanced by special filters that produce a unique look.

The most important thing is to allow yourself adequate time to find the "right" photographer that will work with you. It is also important to listen to their suggestions. With proper planning, you will have pictures of your wedding of which you have always dreamed.
