An important part of any wedding is the rehearsal dinner. This is when everyone from the wedding party gathers to celebrate the upcoming wedding and share some good laughs. The options are numerous but finding perfect balance for all the different attendees can be tricky. You want a dinner that will be perfect for everyone attending. The great thing about rehearsal dinners is that they can be conservative, held in a fabulous five-star restaurant or casual, set up as a picnic at the local park. To give you some ideas on the various options, consider some of the following recommendations:
Casual
- Picnic at Sunset
If you have a beautiful park nearby, consider reserving a shelter house and having your rehearsal dinner starting about an hour before sunset. In addition to the tables provided with the shelter, bring blankets to be spread out on the grass, and then on each blanket, set up a nicely packed basket of wine, cheese, gourmet bread, variety of meats, and fresh fruit. For dessert, use the tables in the shelter house for serving cheesecake, cake, and homemade ice cream. Although casual, this makes a very romantic setting that everyone will enjoy.
- Beachside Party
If you live within driving distance from a beach, make this a fun rehearsal dinner for everyone. Set up volleyball nets, horseshoes, and devise different games that can be played on the sand and in the water. For dinner, have a buffet table set up to include various types of fish and shellfish, fresh salads, fruits, breads, and wine. During dinner, have background music playing of the 1960's and 1970's to include anything from the Beach Boys or other surf and turf type music and set up Tiki torches all around the area to provide a small amount of light. Build a roaring bonfire where everyone can make S'mores or just roast marshmallows. More than likely, this party will go into the wee hours.
Formal
- Dinner Theater
Most cities have a nice dinner theater that will work with you to create a wonderful atmosphere for your rehearsal dinner. Check your local listings to see what shows will be performing around the time you want to schedule your dinner. Guests will enjoy the fabulous stage performance and enjoy a delicious dinner together as well
- Four- or Five-Star Restaurant
While this is often where rehearsal dinners are held, find a conservative restaurant where you live to see if they have a separate banquet room. Most restaurants that have a special area for parties and other events will allow decorations to be put up by the person doing the renting. Once you find the right restaurant, set up each table with white linen, and create centerpieces of white, gold, silver, and just a few touches of the color used in your wedding. Each table should also be adorned with several candles of all sizes (unscented), using various styles and size of candleholders. Use your creativity and make this room extra special for you and your guests.
