When it comes to choosing the wedding chapel, many considerations go well beyond just finding a building where the wedding will take place. You need to find out if you are required to use the church's minister or if you can use your own. Ask about the photographer as well. Many "outsiders" need to go through an approval process established by the church.
Regarding the rehearsal, make sure you can get the chapel for that as well and that there will be someone to open the doors for you at the time needed. For the actual day of the wedding, check with the chapel staff to determine how early you can arrive. In general, if the wedding is simple and small, 15 to 30 minutes will suffice while if the wedding is more sophisticated and large, you would need anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour. Be sure to determine what all the cost of the chapel covers. If you are paying on an hourly basis and the wedding runs over, it could get costly. Therefore, make sure you are paying for the right type package for your specific wedding needs. If you were getting married in your own church, more than likely, there would only be a donation fee to the minister and nothing for the actual chapel.
If you will be using other facilities associated with the chapel such as a reception hall, make sure they have the necessary facilities and that you can either bring in or have the meal catered. Some chapels have their own catering packages from which you can choose. In this case, you will want to work with their coordinator very closely to ensure everything comes together as planned. Be sure to find out if children count in the number of guests included. If they do, determine the age cutoff. You will also want to find out how payment is handled. In some cases, you will be required to put a 50% deposit down in order to hold the reservation. This deposit would then be non-refundable and used toward the total cost of the chapel. Make sure you know what the cutoff is for the final payment as well.
If you are not sure where to start looking for a chapel, check the Internet or your local yellow pages for chapel options in your community or in the city where you plan to marry. There are literally thousands of options so finding the perfect location should not be difficult. The key is to ask many questions and get everything in writing!
