Wedding Reception Tips

Weddings and Money

|
If you are using formal attire for the reception, your guests
should know about this by the location of your reception. You may
also instruct a few close friends to spread the news to your
guests if you feel that some people will not be aware of the
reception's dress requirements.
If you are having a sit down dinner that includes assigned seating
for guests, the best thing to do is to use table cards and perhaps
have a seating chart. Since the table cards will be on the table,
you may consider getting the cards printed or have someone who
knows calligraphy address them. You may also have a person
standing by to answer seating questions.

The tables usually have some kind of centerpiece, some type of
wedding favor for guests, and if there is a meal being served,
plates, glasses, and silverware. If it is a sit down dinner, the
guests will be served. If it is a buffet, the guests will go to
the buffet when they are called. You may also want to have
appetizers waiting for your guests while they are writing for you
to arrive.
The reception often includes a number of events: introduction of
the wedding party, cake cutting, toast by the best man, and
throwing the bouquet to name a few. The wedding party should be
introduced once the guests are seated and should be introduced by
the person leading the reception (often a DJ or family member).
The toast by the best man often occurs when the guests have
finished eating and should generally last no more than 2 to 5
minutes. The cake cutting usually follows - the bride and groom
usually cut the cake to celebrate their being together.
Generally the boquet is thrown at the end of the reception. This
usually takes place just before the bride changes into her evening
outfit. The DJ or person running your reception should get the
guests together at the appointed time.
