Weddings and Money

One of the greatest challenges when it comes to planning a wedding is the amount of time available to get everything done. In most cases, the planning starts out fine but before long, everything starts to stack up. Before you know what happened, the wedding is just around the corner and yet there is still much to get accomplished. If this sounds familiar, do not feel bad! Just about every person that plans a wedding struggles with a lack of time.
One of the greatest ways to save time is to hire a qualified wedding consultant. These consultants work closely with the bride and groom to determine the type of wedding they want and then plan everything and do all the legwork. For the couple getting married, hiring a wedding consultant is an excellent way to save time. However, to hire a wedding consultant can be expensive.
If you are unable to hire a wedding consultant, following are some tips for saving money and staying on track of everything that needs to be accomplished before the big day.
- Create a checklist of everything you need to do. Make this as detailed as possible to ensure nothing is missed. For example, if the bride and groom will be lighting a Unity Candle, matches or a lighter is needed. Although a small item, without it, the ceremony would be disrupted.
- Keep an organizer with you at all times. You never know when you might be walking past a store that has the exact item needed when you were not expecting to find it. With the planner on hand, you can make the purchase and cross that item off your list.
- Make sure your wedding invitations are mailed out a minimum of eight weeks prior to the wedding.
- Book the church and reception location as soon as you know your wedding date, even if it is still a year away. Once booked, do a follow up phone call six months, three months, one month, and then two weeks out. If you have trouble securing the places you want, consider having your wedding and/or reception outdoors at a beautiful park or botanical garden.
- Starting at three weeks out, contact each of your suppliers weekly to ensure everything is on track.
- Shop around for honeymoon packages as early as you know your date.
- Once decisions have been made regarding type of cake, wedding colors, band, food, and so on, stick with it. Changes only waste precious time.
- Ask for help. Too many times, a bride and/or groom believe they have to do everything themselves. You are going to need help - period!
