More and more, the bride and groom are using centerpieces at their wedding
reception. Not only are these beautiful but you can also have a drawing at
the end of the night where different guests can win the centerpieces.
Prior to choosing the centerpiece for your table, talk to the people in
charge of the reception hall where your reception will be held. Unbelievably,
some do not allow centerpieces. The reason is that they do not want anything
in the hall that could be a fire hazard. You also need to look at the size of
tables that you will be using so the centerpiece can enhance the look, not
overtake the top of the table. Another consideration is children. Make sure
the centerpieces do not contain balloons that could pop and choke them, or
pointy objects that could cause harm.
If you decide to give the centerpieces away, you can put a number on each of
the chairs and then at the end of the night, draw numbers per table. Each
person would look under their chair to see if their number is a winner. If
your reception is themed, you could incorporate some of the wedding theme
into the centerpieces. As an example, if your wedding has a western theme,
you could use old cowboy boots sprayed with colored paints and then used for
the base of the floral piece.
You do not have to make all centerpieces alike and in fact, you want them to
be different. They can vary in color and size, allowing the people making
them to be creative. Use different types of vases as well and even candles
set around the base or in the centerpiece. If your wedding is during the
holidays, use the centerpieces as a way of bringing some of the festive
atmosphere into the reception. For example, at Christmas, you could use
candy canes, at Halloween miniature pumpkins, and at Easter, colored plastic
eggs.
Just make the centerpieces will sit sturdy on the table and not tip over.
You also want the centerpieces set strategically so taller centerpieces do
not block the view of the bride and groom. Other options would include:
- Mirrors, which can make smaller centerpieces look larger
- Fresh-cut flowers mingled in with silk flowers
- Glitter gentle sprinkled on the centerpiece will give it a magical look
- Candles are also beautiful, but just make sure the container is heat resistance
