The first dance as husband and wife is an emotional statement and one that is both romantic and memorable. If you look back in history, you would find that the first dance was actually symbolic of consummation. Couples would dance showing that they agreed in a cooperative engagement and joint endeavor in life. Today, while some of the symbolism has faded away, the first dance is still important and adds a touch of elegance and tradition to the reception.
The groom should keep his frame and posture so it shows love, strength, companionship, and guidance for his bride. The bride should stand poised and elegant, pressing into the groom, showing love, companionship, and support. Keep in mind that while some couples will merely get on the dance floor, muddle their way through a song, and call it done, this event is important and one that should be carefully planned. Rather than hope you do not fall or trip, set some time aside starting six weeks out from the wedding date to take private lessons so the two of you can dance perfectly with one another and impress the guests.
After all, you want to walk out onto the dance floor with confidence. Best of all, the lessons you took can be put to good use throughout your lifetime. When the two of you are on the honeymoon, you can dance on the cruise ship and know exactly what you are doing. When you celebrate your 10th wedding anniversary, you can hit that dance club and look amazing on the dance floor. Therefore, the expense of lessons is well worth every cent.
There are literally hundreds of songs that make an excellent choice for the first date but to help you get started, consider some of the following most popular choices:
- After All Peter Cetera and Cher
- All I Want Is You U2
- Always and Forever Heatwave
