As you, your new spouse, and guests make their way from the church to the reception hall, you want them to be greeted with the same beauty as what they just witnessed with the wedding ceremony. If you like, you can have the ceremony flowers transferred to the reception hall after the wedding is complete, or if you prefer, decorate the reception hall with something completely different.
Some of the flowers you will need for your reception include centerpieces for the guest tables as well as the table for the bride, groom, and wedding party, flowers to be placed around the buffet, if serving one, flowers for the cake decoration and table, if preferred, and various arrangements set about the room to create a magical atmosphere.
Centerpieces
The best containers include glass, ceramic, or pottery. For the guest tables, you should have two centerpieces for each. You want the centerpieces to be colorful and fragrant, but not too busy. You will have people sitting across from each other wanting to visit, therefore, if the centerpiece is too broad or tall, they will not be able to see each other. Create a bit of drama by using accessories, ribbons, or colored stones, placed around the base of the container. For the wedding party table, you can have one luxurious arrangement that sits in the center and then a small, more intimate floral design on either side.
Buffet
If serving a buffet, have garlands placed around the table, or have the table sprinkled with flower petals. Additionally, the buffet table is the place where you can have a little more fun with the type of arrangements chosen. Use bright colored flowers but keep the arrangements small so they enhance the buffet, not take away from it.
Cake Flowers
A wonderful way to decorate a wedding cake is with fresh flowers. Many couples are now eliminating the cake toppers and replacing them with floral arrangements. For a tiered cake, you can have the florist create a beautiful topper of coordinating colored flowers, with other types of flowers flowing down the sides of the cake. This makes a beautiful sight and provides you with something a little unique. Around the table where the cake is set, have flower garlands wrapped around the edges and then a few soft petals scattered around the table. Excellent options include Magnolias, Roses, and Peonies. Use flowers to create a festive atmosphere as you celebrate your marriage!
