Planning a wedding should be a time of joy and excitement. For some it is, but for most couples, it quickly becomes a time of stress and overwhelming decisions. Planning a wedding requires you to learn a new language of sorts, understanding what everything means so you make all the right decisions. While some definitions are obvious, others are new to many young couples.
Some of the definitions that you have probably heard of include the following:
Calligraphy Taken from the Greek language, calligraphy is a beautiful, fluid form of writing that creates a formal tone to the invitation.
Engagement Announcements This is a formal announcement of your upcoming wedding. Typically, the parents of the bride will place an announcement in the local newspaper along with an engagement picture, not more than one year prior to the wedding date.
Inner Invitation Envelope This is an envelope inside the wedding invitation envelop that is used by the recipient to return their response card so you know who will and will not be attending your wedding. This envelop should be self-addressed and self-stamped.
Other definitions that are important to the invitation but less known include:
Custom Imprints Instead of using a standard design for the invitations, you can choose from customized designs. Generally, the stationer will create the design for you or if you are creative, you can create your own. The final design is referred to as a custom imprint.
Foil Imprints Also known as foil blocking, you can choose from different color foil that undergoes a special process of heating and etching. This imprint can be used on the inside flap of the invitation envelop or inside the invitation itself and comes in a variety of colors and effects.
Offset Printing This too has other names such as flat printing and lithography. In this case, the ink for the invitation is stamped onto a page using a special rubber stamp cylinder. The result is a beautiful and unique flat image.
Thermography Even if you have never heard of this, you have probably seen it. This is the most popular method for printing available. Although it is inexpensive, when the heat fuses ink and powder together, raised letters are created. This nice type of print is one you might consider.
