Choosing music for your wedding reception that offers something for everyone
is tricky, although not impossible. People love to dance at a wedding
reception. To start out, you need to choose the wedding song that will be
you and your new partner's first dance. Although there are hundreds of songs
that would be perfect, following is a list of the most popular choices over
the past year:
From this Moment On - Shania Twain
At Last - Etta James
Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Have I Told you Lately - Rod Stewart or Van Morrison
I Knew I Loved You - Savage Garden
The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra
Endless Love - Lionel Richie and Diana Ross
I Do - 98 Degrees
Always and Forever - Heatwave
Of course, you want to ensure you are working with a seasoned DJ or band
that understands the importance of the right wedding songs played at the
right time. After you have shared this special dance, there should be some
nice dinner music, if applicable or "conversational" music. This would
include soft rock, classical, or jazz. To get the dancing started, the
wedding songs should a nice blend of romance, big band, and 50's classics.
After everyone has loosened up with slower music, the wedding songs should
progress into something more up-tempo. You want to include some Top-40,
Alternative, and even Rock n' Roll, music that gets the feet moving.
Periodically, a slower song should be incorporated to break the mix up a bit
and set the mood. Additionally, if the DJ or band notices that people are
getting restless, they should transition to wedding songs that will liven up
the reception just as they would transition to something slow if things start
to get a bit rowdy.
Having wedding songs transition smoothly will get everyone involved, from age
two to 92. Having a nice mix will offer everyone a chance to dance at some
point during the reception. If done correctly, the transition is something not
even noticed, which is exactly what you want. All your guests will know is
that they are having a blast dancing.
