With every wedding, tremendous planning takes place to ensure all of the pieces come together beautifully. Flowers play a significant role in the wedding and may take a little extra time to select. Usually, a visit to the florist will help you decide the appropriate flowers for your style of wedding and budget. As you decide on your wedding flowers, remember that while some flowers are traditional, each year new species and trends become available.
The fun aspect of wedding flower trends is that just about anything goes literally. Throughout history, brides have been known to step out of the box, creating unusual creations, some of which caught on, becoming a new trend. For instance, one bride had a beautiful hand purse created out of blooms while another had a choker made by using an Orchid attached to a piece of velvet ribbon. Not only did this look amazing, but also the fragrance was sweet and romantic.
For starters, the current trend for wedding flowers consists of white on white. You will find many bouquets and ceremony flowers that are designed with Calla Lilies, Miniature White Roses, Paper Whites, and even Carnations, all gently wrapped with a feminine antique white lace. Another trend that is very popular are arrangements created with various types and shades of red flowers. You will find vibrant splashes of red that include Red Roses, Dahlias, and Parrot Tulips. Some of the arrangements also have a slight touch of burgundy or deep purple for accent. This style reminds you of the Victorian era, with rich, warm colors.
More and more brides are choosing bouquets and ceremony flowers that are designed with numerous shades and types of greenery. In fact, many of the arrangements are heavy on the greenery and accented with just a few flowers, which is opposite from the traditional arrangement. Great choices would include Camellia Leaves with the baby buds still attached, Fresh Mint, Lemon Leaves, and Ferns, accented with purple, red, or pink.
If you want something more simplistic, yet elegant, consider carrying a spray rather than a bouquet. Have it created with a single flower or just a few, that have soft feathery greenery entangled and wrapped with a thin, soft colored piece of ribbon or lace.
While the traditional wedding flowers such as Roses, Orchids, and Lilies will never go out of style, many brides are interested in keeping up with the latest trends. The styles mentioned are considered the most popular today but if you are not planning your wedding until next year, be sure to talk to your florist about new trends.
