The maid of honor is usually a sister or close friend of the bride or
someone that has a special place in the bride's life. Most weddings
have one maid of honor but it wedding is extra large, it is perfectly
proper to have more than one maid of honor. This person will help the
bride as she plans the wedding. She will be the encourager, supporter,
sounding board, and there to help in anyway she can to make things run
smoothly.
The maid of honor usually gets involved in the wedding process from the
very beginning. She can help the bride choose wedding invitations and
shop for wedding dresses, giving her opinion on what looks good and not
so good. She will organize the wedding shower for the bride and be
responsible for making party favors, organizing food and drink, and
setting up any entertainment.
Additional support the maid of honor will provide includes:
- Helps with addressing invitations, working on decorations, and any shopping needing to be done
- Can take over a responsibility for the bride such as flowers, cake, music, or photographer
- Helps organize all aspects of the bride's maids to include dresses, shoes, jewelry, hair, and so on
- Is responsible for managing the groom's ring until the wedding day at which time she hands it to the bride to place on the groom's finger
- Assists the bride on the day of the wedding with getting dressed, hair, and makeup
- Is one of the official witnesses on the wedding certificate
The position of maid of honor is an important one. When the bride finds
herself running out of time, the maid of honor will step up to keep her
calm and help with what needs to be done.
With the maid of honor being someone so close to the bride, this is a
special time for the two of them, a time that will be cherished forever.
In fact, no greater event in life can two women share together. The
relationship between the bride and maid of honor is the ultimate bonding
experience, something that will be special throughout many generations.
Many people do not realize everything the maid of honor does. Often this
position's importance is underplayed when in fact this is a real position
of honor and one that requires time and effort. However, the bride and
maid of honor also have a great time together. The entire process of
planning the wedding together is exciting, bringing the two together closer
than ever.
